Description
Plitvice Lakes National Park (Nacionalni park Plitvička jezera) is Croatia’s oldest and most visited national park, renowned for its spectacular landscape of 16 turquoise lakes, cascading waterfalls and wooden walkways. Surrounded by dense beech and fir forests, the interconnected lakes are shaped by natural travertine barriers formed through an ongoing process of mineral deposition. Hiking trails and a boat connection across the largest lake, Kozjak, link the Upper and Lower Lakes, while Veliki Slap, the park’s highest waterfall, is one of its most iconic natural landmarks. The diverse landscape provides a habitat for species including brown bears and wolves, combining exceptional natural beauty with remarkable geological processes. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, Plitvice Lakes is one of Croatia’s most celebrated natural attractions.
