Description
Ouarzazate (ورزازات) is the gateway to Morocco’s desert regions and a fascinating blend of traditional earthen architecture, dramatic landscapes, and cinematic history. The city is known for the imposing Taourirt Kasbah, its renowned film studios, and its spectacular setting between the High Atlas Mountains and the pre-Saharan landscapes of southern Morocco. Often dubbed the “Hollywood of Africa”, Ouarzazate and its surroundings have served as filming locations for numerous international movies and television productions. Nearby lies the Ksar of Aït-Ben-Haddou, one of Morocco’s most impressive historic fortified villages and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ouarzazate is also an important starting point for journeys through the oases, valleys, and desert landscapes of southern Morocco.
