Chefchaouen (شفشاون) is a picturesque mountain town in the Rif Mountains of northern Morocco, best known for its distinctive blue-washed medina. Founded in 1471, the town is characterized by winding alleys, small squares, traditional houses, and stairways painted in countless shades of blue. Andalusian influences, the historic kasbah, and the Grand Mosque around Place Outa el Hammam reflect its centuries-old heritage. Surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery, Chefchaouen blends Moroccan and Andalusian traditions with a relaxed atmosphere and is considered one of the most distinctive and photogenic destinations in northern Morocco.
