Description
Naran is a single street of hotels and jeep stands at two thousand four hundred metres in the Kaghan valley, and in a peak week more than a million Pakistanis drive up it. What they come for is Saif-ul-Muluk, a lake at three thousand two hundred metres under the wall of Malika Parbat, reached by an hour of jeep track that turns into a walk. Lulusar lake and the Babusar Pass lie further up, and the pass is the summer road into Gilgit-Baltistan. It opens at the end of June and shuts in October. The Kaghan valley runs eighty kilometres up from Balakot and Naran sits near its head.
