Description
Mohenjo-daro was a city of the Indus Valley civilisation around 2500 before Christ, one of the earliest anywhere, and it was laid out on a grid with baked brick drains under every street before Egypt built its pyramids at Giza. UNESCO listed it in 1980. The Great Bath on the citadel mound is the oldest known public water tank, watertight in bitumen, and beside it stand a pillared hall and a granary. Nobody knows what language the people spoke or why they left. Salt rising through the brick is the site's slow enemy. The nearest station is at Dokri eleven kilometres away.
