Description
Karachi is the largest city in Pakistan and the port through which almost all of its trade passes, a fishing village of a few thousand when the British took it in 1839 and something over twenty million now. Jinnah is buried under a white marble dome at the centre, and the crowd that walks around it every evening is the closest thing the city has to a civic square. Clifton beach runs along the Arabian Sea with camel carts on the sand. Mohatta Palace, Frere Hall and Empress Market are the colonial set pieces. Boats cross to Manora all day.
