Description
Namangan is the third largest city in Uzbekistan and is known at home for its gardens rather than its monuments, which are thin on the ground. A flower festival has run here every year since 1961 and fills the parks in late spring with growers from across the country. What monuments there are stand close together, the Mullah Kyrgyz madrasah of 1910 with its restored mosaic, the eighteenth century Khodjamni Kabri mausoleum in carved terracotta, and the domed Friday mosque. The ruined city of Aksikent outside town was the valley's old capital until an earthquake ended it, and its finds are in the museum here.
