Description
Margilan has woven silk for a thousand years and still does it by hand, which is the entire reason to come the ten kilometres from Fergana. At the Yodgorlik factory the whole sequence runs in one yard, from the boiling of the cocoons through the tying and dyeing of the warp to the loom, and the ikat patterns called atlas and adras come off it blurred at every edge because that is what the technique does. UNESCO put the town's crafts centre on its safeguarding register in 2017. The Kumtepa bazaar trades on Thursdays and Sundays.
