Description
Nagarparkar sits at the far south-eastern corner of Pakistan where the Thar desert runs into the salt flats of the Rann of Kutch, under the pink granite Karoonjhar hills that stretch nineteen kilometres along the border. Around fourteen abandoned Jain temples stand in the villages here, built between the twelfth and fifteenth centuries, and the frescoes inside the Gori temple are the oldest surviving Jain paintings in the northern subcontinent. UNESCO put the whole landscape on its tentative list. After the monsoon the desert turns green and streams run off the granite, which is the season to come.
