Short description of Mutla Ridge
The Mutla Ridge is the escarpment of Jal Az-Zor, sixty kilometres of limestone standing over the north shore of Kuwait Bay and the only relief in a country that is otherwise a table. From the crest the bay opens out below and the city sits on the far side of it. After winter rain the playas below turn green and irises come up, which is the one window when the desert here is worth a drive for its own sake. From October the licensed camps go up and thousands of Kuwaiti families move out into the desert for the season.
