Description
Murree is the hill station the British built in 1851 as a summer sanatorium for the garrison at Rawalpindi, and it is now the most heavily visited place in Pakistan, an hour up the road from Islamabad. The Mall runs along a ridge at two thousand three hundred metres with pine forest falling away on both sides. Chairlifts drop off the ridge at Pindi Point and a longer gondola climbs to Patriata above the valley. Snow brings a second season and a crush of cars. Nathia Gali and the Galyat forests continue north. The road up from Islamabad climbs sixty kilometres in an hour.
