Description
Moremi Game Reserve is one of Botswana’s most important protected areas, encompassing a diverse part of the eastern Okavango Delta. Its landscapes combine lagoons, seasonal floodplains, islands, grasslands, and mopane woodland, creating habitats for an exceptional variety of wildlife. Moremi was established in 1963 at the initiative of the Batawana people to protect wildlife from uncontrolled hunting and is regarded as the first major protected area in Africa created by a local community. The reserve is renowned for elephants, lions, leopards, African wild dogs, and numerous antelope species, as well as its rich birdlife. Game drives and, depending on water levels, boat or mokoro excursions reveal the Delta’s diverse ecosystems.
