Description
Matsushima (松島) is a picturesque coastal landscape in Miyagi Prefecture and, with its roughly 260 pine-covered islands, ranks among Japan’s Three Scenic Views. The sheltered bay is renowned for its striking island panoramas, sightseeing cruises, and historic temples. Its most notable sights include the historic Godaido Hall, the Zen temple Zuiganji, and Entsuin Temple, known for its beautifully landscaped gardens. Matsushima combines spectacular natural scenery with centuries of Buddhist culture and is easily accessible from Sendai. The bay is considered one of the defining scenic and cultural landmarks of the Tohoku region.
