Liège

Liège is a lively Meuse city shaped by prince-bishops, heavy industry and repeated reinvention. In the historic centre, the Palace of the Prince-Bishops, Saint Paul's Cathedral and the steep Montagne de Bueren steps reveal very different layers of the city; from the upper slopes, views open across roofs and river.

Museums around Grand Curtius connect archaeology, decorative arts and the history of weapons, while converted industrial sites and contemporary projects point to Liège's modern identity. The sculptural Liège-Guillemins station makes rail arrival part of the experience, and buses link the spread-out districts. A full day covers the core, but two allow museums and a trip to the UNESCO-listed Blegny-Mine. Expect hills, steps and some distance between sights; verify museum days and any market or event schedule before visiting.
