Jūrmala
Latvia · Riga · 5 m
Description
Jūrmala is the beach resort of Riga, a strip of pine forest and white quartz sand running for over thirty kilometres between the Gulf of Riga and the Lielupe river, half an hour from the capital by train. Wooden villas built for the Russian imperial bourgeoisie fill the streets behind the dunes, hundreds of them, in a style that exists nowhere else at this scale. Jomas iela is the pedestrian spine of the resort. The water is shallow and slow to warm, which is why the season is short and intense.
