Short description of Hikutavake
Hikutavake is the village on Niue's north-western coast where the island's best known sea tracks begin. Matapa Chasm lies at the end of one of them, a cleft in the limestone filled with cool water where the Niuean kings once bathed, calm enough to swim in almost any weather. The Talava Arches are a short walk further on, a run of natural arches and caves above the reef that is best reached at low tide. Limu Pools sit south of the village, clear rock pools where fresh water meets the sea. Palaha Cave hangs with stalactites above the shore.
