Short description of Hakupu

Hakupu is the largest village on Niue's south-eastern side and the way into the Huvalu Forest Conservation Area, the biggest surviving block of native forest on the island. Togo Chasm is reached through it, a walk across a field of razor-sharp coral pinnacles that ends at a ladder down into a hidden bowl of golden sand and palms. Vaikona Chasm and Anapala Chasm lie nearby, both freshwater pools at the bottom of steep descents. Peka, the island's fruit bats, roost in the forest canopy. The village keeps a craft house where pandanus weaving is sold.
