Description
Gwadar sits on a hammerhead of rock joined to the Makran coast by a sand bar, so the town has a bay on each side and the fishing fleet works both. Oman ruled it for nearly two centuries and only sold it to Pakistan in 1958, which is why the old quarter looks more Arabian than Baloch. The deep-sea port built on the eastern bay is the end point of the corridor from western China. Koh-e-Batil, the flat-topped ridge behind the town, is walked up for the view down onto both bays at once. The town sits six hundred and fifty kilometres west of Karachi by the coastal highway.
