Flores

Guatemala · Petén · 110 m

Description

Flores is the capital of Guatemala's Petén Department and is picturesquely situated on an island in Lake Petén Itzá, connected to the mainland by a causeway. The town is known for its colorful houses, colonial character, narrow cobblestone streets, and relaxed lakeside promenade (Malecón). As the region's main tourist hub, Flores serves as the gateway to the famous Maya sites of Tikal, Yaxhá, and Uaxactún, as well as other archaeological and natural attractions in the Petén lowlands. Its historic charm, well-developed tourism infrastructure, and scenic lakeside setting make Flores one of Guatemala's most popular destinations and the principal gateway to the Maya world of Petén.
