Description
El Mirador lies deep within the tropical rainforest of northern Petén near the Mexican border and is home to one of the most important Preclassic Maya cities in Mesoamerica. The remote archaeological site is renowned for its monumental temples and pyramids, most notably La Danta, one of the world's largest pyramids by volume, as well as its ancient causeways that once connected the cities of the Mirador Basin. The multi-day trek through pristine primary rainforest passes through habitat for howler and spider monkeys, toucans, scarlet macaws, and jaguars, making the journey itself an unforgettable wilderness experience.
