Cordillera Huayhuash
Peru · Áncash · 4200 m
Description
The Cordillera Huayhuash is a spectacular mountain range south of Huaraz and one of the most renowned trekking destinations in the Andes. The range is famous for its rugged peaks, turquoise glacial lakes, and high mountain passes exceeding 5,000 meters. The classic circuit takes about 8 to 12 days and leads through one of Peru's most pristine alpine landscapes, offering breathtaking views of summits such as Yerupajá, the country's second-highest mountain. The region gained international recognition through the mountaineering drama on Siula Grande, recounted in the book “Touching the Void”. Along the route, the natural hot springs of Viconga provide a welcome opportunity to relax and recover after long days on the trail.
