Description
Vinicunca, also known as “Rainbow Mountain”, is one of the most spectacular natural attractions in the Peruvian Andes and among the country's most iconic hiking destinations. Rising to over 5,000 metres above sea level, the mountain is renowned for its striking bands of red, ochre, yellow, green and violet, created by mineral-rich sedimentary layers exposed through tectonic uplift and erosion. The challenging trek passes through the rugged Andean highlands, offering breathtaking views of the snow-capped Ausangate, the highest peak in the Cusco Region. Along the way, visitors encounter traditional Quechua communities as well as herds of llamas and alpacas that define this unique mountain landscape. Vinicunca combines extraordinary natural beauty, dramatic scenery and living Andean culture into one of Peru's most unforgettable high-altitude experiences.
