Description

Cholpon-Ata (Чолпон-Ата) is the main resort town on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul and one of Kyrgyzstan’s most popular summer destinations. The town combines beaches, mountain scenery and lively seasonal recreation with a history stretching back thousands of years. Its most notable attraction is the extensive Petroglyphs Open-Air Museum, where numerous rock carvings from different periods depict animals, hunting scenes and human figures. On the lakeshore, the Ruh Ordo Cultural Center features religious buildings, sculptures and exhibitions dedicated to cultural and interfaith dialogue. Summer brings water sports, traditional horse races and equestrian games. Cholpon-Ata offers a distinctive blend of lakeside leisure, Kyrgyz traditions and archaeological heritage.
