Description
Białowieża Forest (Puszcza Białowieska) is one of Europe’s most significant surviving ancient forest areas, stretching across the border between Poland and Belarus. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is known for its old-growth forests, towering trees, and exceptional biodiversity. The forest is especially famous as a refuge for the European bison, which was successfully reintroduced here after disappearing from the wild. Wolves, lynx, moose, and numerous rare bird, plant, and fungal species also thrive among its ancient oaks and spruces. Guided walks offer access to some of the national park’s most protected areas. The village of Białowieża combines this remarkable natural heritage with historic parks, Orthodox churches, and traditional wooden architecture.
