Zongo Falls

Description
Zongo is where the Inkisi river drops sixty-five metres over a broad rock lip into a forested bowl, a hundred and thirty kilometres south-west of Kinshasa and the standard weekend escape from the city. Spray fills the gorge and keeps the surrounding forest green through the dry season. A lodge sits above the falls with a terrace facing them, and a path descends to the pool at the bottom. The drive takes three or four hours and the last fifty kilometres are unpaved. The botanical garden at Kisantu, laid out by Jesuits in 1900, lies on the same road.
