Description
Way Kambas National Park (Taman Nasional Way Kambas) in southern Sumatra is one of Indonesia’s most established protected areas and an important refuge for some of the island’s rarest wildlife. The national park is best known for its conservation efforts for the Sumatran elephant and the critically endangered Sumatran rhinoceros, but it is also home to Sumatran tigers, Malayan tapirs, and hundreds of bird species. Lowland and swamp forests, wetlands, grasslands, and rivers shape its diverse landscape. Combining pristine nature with important wildlife conservation programs, Way Kambas ranks among Sumatra’s most significant protected areas.
