Description
Tanah Lot is one of Bali's most photographed sea temples, built on a rock formation just off the Tabanan coast. High tide surrounds its base with waves, while low tide opens a rocky causeway that visitors can cross on foot, though only Hindu worshippers may enter the shrine itself. Founded in the sixteenth century by the priest Nirartha, it is one of the island's seven key sea temples that traditionally guard Bali from evil spirits. Sunset is the defining moment, when the silhouette turns gold against the Indian Ocean and crowds gather on cliffside terraces and in beachfront restaurants to watch. A nearby rock arch temple and a market selling handicrafts complete the visit.
