Description
Tofo is one of Mozambique’s best-known diving and snorkeling destinations, set along the coast of Inhambane Province. The laid-back beach town is renowned for its exceptionally rich marine life and is sometimes called the “whale shark capital of Africa”. Manta rays can be seen year-round, whale sharks are particularly common from around October to March, while humpback whales pass offshore between June and November. Daily boat trips head out in search of whale sharks, rays and other marine life, while dive sites around Tofo and Barra offer diverse reefs. Nearby Tofinho attracts surfers, Praia da Barra offers long sandy beaches, and historic Inhambane makes an appealing excursion.
