Description
Tel Aviv (תל אביב) was founded on sand dunes in 1909 and grew into the one Israeli city that is about the present rather than the past. Its White City holds around four thousand Bauhaus and international style buildings put up by architects who fled Germany in the thirties, the largest concentration anywhere, and it went on the UNESCO list in 2003. Fourteen kilometres of beach run the length of the city with a promenade the whole way, and the bars stay open until people leave. Jaffa at the southern end is four thousand years older than everything behind it.
