Description
Sidemen is a quiet valley village in Karangasem, East Bali, known for terraced rice fields that climb toward Mount Agung's silhouette in the distance. Traditional Subak irrigation channels feed the paddies, and the surrounding hamlets keep up handloom weaving of songket and endek cloth, sold from small workshops along the road. The pace here is slower than the island's coastal resorts, which has drawn a growing community of long-term visitors and remote workers to its guesthouses and rice-view villas. Walking trails wind between the terraces past temples and irrigation canals, and the Telaga Tista and Kuning waterfalls lie a short drive away. Cycling tours through the countryside and cooking classes in family compounds are also popular.
