Description
Purmamarca is a small Andean village in northwestern Argentina, nestled at the foot of the famous Cerro de los Siete Colores, the “Hill of Seven Colors”. The village is known for its traditional adobe houses, indigenous heritage, and spectacular backdrop of red, purple, ochre, green, and pale rock formations. Purmamarca lies within the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Quebrada de Humahuaca, a 155-kilometer-long valley dotted with pre-Columbian remains, cactus-covered landscapes, and historic Andean villages along an ancient trade route. From here, a winding road climbs across the Cuesta de Lipán into the high-altitude Puna to the Salinas Grandes, a vast white salt flat about 65 kilometers away at an elevation of roughly 3,450 meters.
