Description
Humahuaca is a historic Andean town in the far northwest of Argentina and one of the cultural centers of the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Quebrada de Humahuaca. Located at nearly 3,000 meters above sea level, the town is characterized by whitewashed colonial architecture, Indigenous traditions, and the distinctive culture of the Argentine Andes. Its best-known landmarks include the historic Cabildo with its clock tower, the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, the Monument to the Heroes of Independence, and traditional handicraft markets. East of the town rises the spectacular Serranía del Hornocal, a multicolored mountain formation popularly known as the “Mountain of 14 Colors”. Humahuaca combines history, Indigenous culture, and dramatic high-Andean landscapes, making it one of the most distinctive destinations in northwestern Argentina.
