Short description of Port Lockroy
Port Lockroy is a natural harbour on Wiencke Island, and on tiny Goudier Island inside it stands Bransfield House, a British base from the wartime Operation Tabarin, restored as a museum. It is run through the summer by a small team who keep the southernmost public post office in the world, sell stamps and send visitors' postcards home. Gentoo penguins nest right up against the walls. Jougla Point across the water has more gentoos, blue-eyed shags and a whale skeleton laid out on the rocks. Damoy Point nearby keeps an old refuge hut from the days of dog sledging.
