Description
Nouabalé-Ndoki has never been logged and has no roads, and the forest inside it has stood undisturbed long enough that the animals show little fear of people. UNESCO listed it in 2012 as part of the Sangha Trinational with the parks over the borders in Cameroon and the Central African Republic. Mbeli Bai is the best known clearing, a marshy opening where researchers have watched named gorilla families for more than thirty years from a platform above the swamp. Goualougo in the south is where chimpanzees were first filmed using tool sets. Access runs by road and river from Ouesso.
