Description
Conkouati-Douli runs from the Atlantic beach inland over lagoon, savanna, mangrove and forest to the mountains on the Gabonese border, which gives it more habitats than any other park in the country. Chimpanzees rescued from the trade were released on islands in the Conkouati lagoon and can be watched from a boat. Leatherback and olive ridley turtles nest on the shore from October, humpback whales pass offshore in the dry season, and manatees live in the lagoon. Forest elephants and buffalo come out onto the beach here as they do in Gabon. Pointe-Noire is about four hours away down the coast road.
