Description
Mount Scenery is the volcanic summit that fills the middle of Saba and at eight hundred and seventy metres is the highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The way up is a stone staircase of one thousand and sixty four steps, laid by hand, climbing from Windwardside through forest that changes as it rises. The last stretch is elfin cloud forest, mountain mahogany hung with orchids and epiphytes, wet and cool and usually inside the cloud that sits on the peak. On a clear morning the top gives Sint Eustatius, Saint Kitts and Sint Maarten. The whole mountain is a nature park.
