Description
Majuro is the capital of the Marshall Islands and one long thread of coral, forty kilometres of road with lagoon on one side and open ocean on the other and rarely more than a few hundred metres between them. The town spreads through Delap, Uliga and Djarrit at the eastern end. Laura Beach at the far western tip is the one place islanders go to swim. The Alele Museum keeps the stick charts that Marshallese navigators read swell patterns from, a system found nowhere else, and the lagoon holds wrecks shallow enough for any diver.
