Description
K’gari (formerly Fraser Island), off the east coast of Queensland, is the world’s largest sand island, covering around 1,840 km², and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island is renowned for its seemingly endless sandy beaches, colourful sand cliffs, crystal-clear freshwater lakes such as Lake McKenzie, and lush rainforests that grow remarkably on sand. K’gari combines spectacular natural scenery with the rich cultural heritage of the Butchulla people and offers unforgettable experiences, including four-wheel-drive adventures along 75 Mile Beach, hikes through dunes and rainforest, and encounters with wild dingoes. Australia’s largest sand island is one of Queensland’s most remarkable natural destinations and can be reached by ferry from the mainland.
