Jazan, Saudi Arabia

Jazan

Saudi Arabia · 5 m

Description

Jazan is the humid tropical corner of Saudi Arabia, a Red Sea port on a coastal plain of mango, papaya and banana farms with the Yemeni highlands rising just beyond. It is the ferry port for the Farasan Islands and the base for the two things people drive down for, the terraced mountain of Fifa, farmed in green steps almost to the summit, and Wadi Lajab, a slot canyon with running water and ferns in a country that has almost none. The coffee grown in these mountains, Khawlani, is the oldest cultivated coffee in Arabia.
