Buraydah
Saudi Arabia · Al-Qassim · 600 m
Description
Buraydah is the capital of Al-Qassim, the agricultural heart of the Najd, and it is a date town above all else. Its date market is the largest in the world, and for two months each late summer the Buraydah Date Festival turns the yards over to auctions where growers sell by the truckload. The city's camel market is on a similar scale, a dawn business of thousands of animals traded on open ground. Buraydah is conservative even by Saudi standards and has almost no international tourism, which is much of its interest.
