Description
Gorkhi-Terelj is the national park closest to Ulaanbaatar and the one almost every visitor sees, an hour and a half northeast of the city where the steppe breaks into granite tors, larch woods and river meadows. Weathered rock formations stand out of the grass, the best known shaped like a turtle. The Aryabal meditation temple sits at the top of a long stairway up a side valley. On the road in stands the Chinggis Khaan equestrian statue at Tsonjin Boldog, forty metres of stainless steel on a circular visitor hall.
