Description
Altai Tavan Bogd is the far western corner of Mongolia, where the country meets Russia and China at a massif of five peaks carrying the largest glaciers in the country. Khüiten at four thousand three hundred and seventy four metres is the highest point in Mongolia. The province around it, Bayan-Ölgii, is the only one with a Kazakh majority, Muslim and Turkic-speaking, and the tradition of hunting with golden eagles from horseback survives here and almost nowhere else. Rock carvings across the valleys are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Everything here is reached by flight to Ölgii.
