Flinders Ranges
Australia · South Australia · 250 m
Description
The Flinders Ranges are the spectacular outback heart of South Australia, an ancient mountain landscape of rugged rock formations, red earth, deep gorges, and sweeping valleys. The region is known for Ikara (Wilpena Pound), a vast natural amphitheatre, its diverse wildlife, and an extraordinary geological history stretching back around 800 million years. The Flinders Ranges combine scenic drives and hiking trails with significant fossil sites and the living culture of the Adnyamathanha, the Traditional Custodians of the land. Remote landscapes, dramatic mountain ranges, and exceptionally clear, star-filled skies make the region one of Australia’s most fascinating natural destinations.
