Description
The Drakensberg Mountains are the highest and most spectacular mountain range in South Africa and stretches along the border with Lesotho. This impressive mountain landscape is known for its towering basalt cliffs, green plateaus, deep valleys, magnificent waterfalls and peaks rising to more than 3,400 metres. An extensive network of hiking trails leads through diverse landscapes, from gentle grasslands to challenging mountain paths around the famous Amphitheatre. In addition to its extraordinary natural beauty, the Drakensberg also holds great cultural significance thanks to the ancient San rock paintings found throughout the region. As part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Maloti Drakensberg Park, the region is considered one of the most impressive nature and hiking destinations in southern Africa.
