Description
Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve (Reserva de Producción Faunística Cuyabeno) is one of Ecuador's most biodiverse protected areas, covering vast stretches of the northeastern Amazon lowlands. The reserve is renowned for its blackwater rivers, extensive lagoons, and seasonally flooded rainforest, which provide habitat for an extraordinary variety of wildlife, including pink river dolphins, giant otters, caimans, monkeys, and hundreds of bird species. Multi-day stays at jungle lodges typically combine canoe excursions, wildlife watching, rainforest hikes, and visits to indigenous Siona, Secoya, Cofán, and Kichwa communities. Thanks to its relatively easy access from Lago Agrio, Cuyabeno is one of the most popular gateways to the Ecuadorian Amazon and an ideal destination for experiencing the rainforest.
