Description
Chimborazo National Park (Reserva de Producción de Fauna Chimborazo) protects Ecuador's highest mountain, the majestic 6,263 m (20,548 ft) Chimborazo Volcano. Owing to the Earth's equatorial bulge, its summit is the point on the Earth's surface farthest from the planet's center. The park is renowned for its spectacular Andean scenery of glaciers, high-altitude lagoons, and vast páramo grasslands. It is home to Ecuador's largest population of wild vicuñas, as well as Andean condors and other native highland wildlife. Visitors can enjoy scenic hikes, outstanding wildlife viewing, and challenging mountaineering on one of South America's most iconic peaks. Chimborazo National Park is one of Ecuador's premier natural attractions and a highlight of the country's famous Avenue of the Volcanoes.
