Copper Canyon

Mexico · Chihuahua · 2340 m

Description

The Copper Canyon (Barrancas del Cobre) is a vast system of deep canyons in the Sierra Madre Occidental of northern Mexico and one of the country’s most spectacular natural landscapes. The region is known for its dramatic cliffs, extensive pine forests, waterfalls, and the culture of the Rarámuri people, who have lived in these mountains for centuries. One of the most memorable ways to experience the canyons is aboard the legendary El Chepe railway, which winds across bridges and through numerous tunnels amid the rugged mountain scenery. The mountain town of Creel is an important gateway to the region, while Divisadero offers breathtaking canyon views and access to an adventure park featuring one of the world’s longest zip lines.
