Description
Castletown was the capital of the Isle of Man until the government moved to Douglas, and the old town still gathers around Castle Rushen, one of the best preserved medieval castles in Europe. Its limestone keep rises over a small square and a harbour that dries out, with the Old House of Keys, where the Manx parliament sat, standing a few doors away. The Nautical Museum keeps the armed yacht Peggy, walled up in her boathouse for a century and a half. Beyond the town the Langness peninsula runs out to a lighthouse across close cropped turf and low limestone shore.
