Description
Bukit Lawang is a small jungle village on the Bohorok River in North Sumatra and one of the best-known gateways to Gunung Leuser National Park. The village is famous for its Sumatran orangutans and guided treks through the tropical rainforest, which is also home to gibbons, Thomas’s langurs and numerous other wildlife species. Bukit Lawang combines immersive nature experiences and wildlife encounters with a laid-back atmosphere of simple guesthouses, suspension bridges, river swimming and tubing on the Bohorok. Its immediate proximity to the rainforest makes it one of Sumatra’s most memorable bases for jungle adventures.
