The Banda Islands (Kepulauan Banda) are a remote archipelago in the Banda Sea of Indonesia's Maluku Islands and are regarded as the original Spice Islands. As the only native home of nutmeg, they were the center of the global nutmeg trade for centuries and played a pivotal role in the colonial history of Southeast Asia. The volcanic islands are renowned for their lush tropical vegetation, exceptionally clear waters, and vibrant coral reefs within the Coral Triangle, as well as the striking volcanic cone of Gunung Api.
